Salmonella paratyphi C2 LPS (lipopolysaccharide) is a complex molecule found on the outer membrane of the bacterium Salmonella paratyphi C2. It is composed of lipid A, core oligosaccharide, and O-antigen polysaccharide chains. The O-antigen polysaccharide chains are highly variable and are responsible for the serological diversity of Salmonella strains. The LPS of Salmonella paratyphi C2 is of particular interest as it is associated with the pathogenesis of typhoid fever, a serious and potentially fatal disease.
