Leucine-rich repeat neuronal 1 (LRRN1) is a gene located on chromosome 3q23, which encodes a transmembrane protein belonging to the leucine-rich repeat (LRR) family. This protein plays a significant role in neural development and synaptic plasticity due to its involvement in cell-cell adhesion and signaling pathways. LRRN1 has been implicated in brain development processes, especially in synapse organization and neuronal differentiation. Its expression is primarily localized to the central nervous system, indicating its importance in neurodevelopmental functions. Research has highlighted LRRN1's potential involvement in cognitive functions, and alterations in its expression have been associated with various neurological disorders. Additionally, LRRN1 is thought to contribute to the establishment of neuronal networks by modulating interactions between neurons through extracellular matrix components. Current studies are exploring its contributions to neuropathological conditions, providing insights into its relevance in brain health and disease.
