The Dynamin Binding Protein (DNMBP) gene is located on chromosome 10 and has been implicated in Alzheimer's disease due to its role in regulating the actin cytoskeleton and synaptic vesicle pools, which are critical for proper neuronal function and memory performance. DNMBP mRNA expression levels are shown to be lower in Alzheimer's brains, suggesting its potential role in cognitive decline. Genetic studies have linked DNMBP to late-onset Alzheimer's disease (AD) through its single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) such as rs11190305 and rs3740058, although the results show variability across different ethnic populations regarding its association with AD risk. Additionally, research on aged rats demonstrated a correlation between DNMBP expression and long-term memory performance, indicating its significance in maintaining cognitive functions during aging.
