Whether it’s identifying drug contaminants, designing new plastics, or verifying the chemical components of batteries, today’s busy labs need a Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectrometer that is fast, easy to use, and take up minimal space in the lab.
The Thermo Scientific family of Nicolet Summit FTIR spectrometers is designed to meet these needs. And to expand the options for our customers, we recently added the Thermo Scientific Nicolet Summit X FTIR Spectrometer, which is a flexible, easy-to-use, high-performance FTIR.
FTIR spectrometry using your own PC
As with our other Summit models, the Summit X FTIR Spectrometer is a compact, portable instrument that can be used both in the lab and on the production line. The instrument is designed for easy connection to major third-party accessories, allowing for automation and a wide range of sample options. It is also paired with our OMNIC Paradigm Desktop Software, enabling users to easily process their spectra, create customized workflows, and perform multi-component searching—all from a user-friendly dashboard.
Unlike some of our Summit models that come with a built-in computer, the Summit X FTIR Spectrometer has been designed for researchers who prefer to obtain fast, reliable data using their own PC. With the Summit X FTIR Spectrometer, users can control the spectrometer directly from their external computer. This is especially important for the pharmaceutical industry and other organizations that need to issue their own computers for compliance or data integrity reasons. The Summit X FTIR Spectrometer also lowers the cost of ownership with a 10-year warranty on the LightDrive Optical Engine, designed for high-performance data acquisition.
Researchers can cut their analysis time in half using the “smart background” feature that continuously monitors and collects spectra background. When a user walks up to the instrument, it is ready to run the sample, with no need for the additional background step. Users can also send their data to their Thermo Fisher Connect account in the cloud, enabling them to analyze data away from the lab, while collaborating with colleagues anywhere in the world from any device of their choice.

Thermo Fisher Scientific recently added the Summit X FTIR Spectrometer to its Nicolet Summit family of portable FTIR spectrometers, providing flexible, easy-to-use, high-performance FTIR along with the ability to use one’s own PC.
Multiple models to address specific customer needs
The Summit X joins three other models in the FTIR family of spectrometers—each designed to meet specific productivity and resolution needs: F
- Summit LITE FTIR Spectrometer: Designed for labs with cost constraints, the Summit LITE Spectrometer offers an affordable option for busy commercial and university labs with high productivity needs. This model is designed for use with external computers and monitors.
- Summit PRO FTIR Spectrometer: The Summit PRO Spectrometer is designed for users wanting a WiFi-enabled instrument with a built-in Windows 10 computer. Users also have the option of purchasing an integrated touchscreen monitor for a simplified, fast workflow user interface. This feature packed FTIR spectrometer is designed to help busy, multi-user labs obtain fast, high-performance results.
- Summit OA FTIR Spectrometer: The Summit OA Spectrometer is optimized for rapidly characterizing oils, liquids, syrups, and pastes. Integrated with a built-in Windows 10 computer, the Summit OA Spectrometer provides high performance for quality control testing and material identification of liquid and viscous materials.
