Human Pro-Cathepsin B quantitates human Pro-Cathepsin B in serum, plasma, supernatant. The assay will exclusively recognize both natural and recombinant human Pro-Cathepsin B.
Pro-Cathepsin B is the inactive precursor of Cathepsin B, a lysosomal cysteine protease that plays a significant role in both physiological and pathological processes. Synthesized in the endoplasmic reticulum, pro-Cathepsin B undergoes maturation in the acidic environment of the lysosome, where it is activated. Structurally, Cathepsin B consists of a heavy chain and a light chain forming a bi-lobal enzyme with a critical region known as the "occluding loop," which dictates its substrate specificity and activity. Functionally, Cathepsin B is involved in intracellular protein turnover, aiding in the degradation of proteins within endosomes and lysosomes. It also has crucial roles in extracellular matrix remodeling, facilitating processes such as cell migration, invasion, and angiogenesis, particularly in the context of cancer. Dysregulation of Cathepsin B activity is linked to various diseases, including tumor metastasis, neurodegenerative disorders, and inflammatory conditions, making it an important target for therapeutic intervention.
