Silver diethyldithiocarbamate membrane is used to develop ion selective electrodes for nitrate ion. It is useful in the colorimetric determination of arsenic. It acts as a copper chelator, and is utilized to quantitate copper in biological materials by ESR. It also works as an inhibitor of superoxide dismutase, ascorbate oxidase, and other enzymes.
