General Description
• Fumonisin is a fungal metabolite that is a cell permeable mycotoxin that can halt sphingolipid biosynthesis by inhibiting sphingosine N-acetyl transferase
Applications
• It can potently inhibit sphingosine N-acyltransferase (ceramide synthase), causing an accumulation of sphingoid bases
• It is also a protein serine and threonine phosphatase inhibitor
• It can selectively inhibit sphingomyelin biosynthesis in neuronal cells
