The Thermo Scientific™ Rheonaut Module with the Thermo Scientific™ HAAKE™ MARS™ Rheometer Platform simultaneously measures rheological properties and structural changes on the molecular level using FT-IR spectroscopy. The combined analysis allows extensive investigations of structural changes under deformation/shear as well as thermally induced or UV curing. Understanding rheological phenomena on the molecular level enables researchers to speed up formulation development and process optimization.

Adding the Rheonaut FTIR module to a HAAKE MARS Rheometer allows you to adapt formulations quickly and provides you with a deeper level of comprehension in your analyses.

Rheological properties and molecular structure are interrelated, so there’s value in understanding both in your analyses. The steady-state and time-dependent viscoelastic properties of a material can be studied as a function of stress or strain. Those viscoelastic properties depend on the structure and especially the structural changes of the material on the molecular level. Using the Rheonaut Module, both physical and chemical information can be obtained from a sample at the same time. The result enables a comparison of chemical information with rheological properties.

The Rheonaut Module operates in the mid-infrared spectral range (400-4,000 cm-1) where all fundamental absorption bands of a sample are typically found. This covers the fingerprint region, which is generally accepted as unique for each molecule.

Features of the
Rheonaut Module include:

  • Simultaneous rheology and FTIR spectra measurements
  • A compact module for the HAAKE MARS Rheometer
  • Incorporation of the attenuated total reflection (ATR) principle
  • Analysis of structural changes under shear/deformation
  • Support for extensive investigation of thermal/UV curing reactions

Note: The Rheonaut Module was developed specifically for the HAAKE MARS Rheometer Platform.
