Description:
KBr Window, 13 x 2mm

The Micro Compression Cell provides a faster way to prepare microscope samples for transmission analysis by Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy. The sample holder is used to flatten and crush samples for efficient analysis.

Transmission microanalysis provides the user with the ultimate control of spectral quality, because this sample preparation technique optimizes the thickness and spatial dimensions for microanalysis. This proven technique is well-established in the forensic community, since it produces spectra that can be directly compared to reference and library spectra.

Micro Compression Cell

  • Low profile cell design
    • Allows moderate compression of the sample to further reduce sample thickness, while offering the excellent clearance needed to fit under objectives with limited working distance
    • Fits Thermo Scientific infrared microscopes equipped with 10X, 15X, or 32X objectives as well as microscopes from other vendors
  • Uses commercially available 13-mm diameter salt windows to uniformly flatten and support soft elastomeric samples for analysis
  • Typical window materials used are BaF2 and KBr—standard sized, economically priced and infrared-transparent

Diamond Windows

  • Useful for crushing and flattening harder samples—such as minerals and organic crystals that may break salt windows
  • Allows quick sample preparation without fear of breaking the window
  • Extremely durable—eliminate the need to flatten the sample with more traditional preparation tools
  • Facet-free—nearly transparent throughout the infrared region, save for the lattice structures that easily ratio out

Ordering Alerts:

  • Micro Compression Cell – order salt windows separately
  • Micro Compression Diamond Cell – includes two diamond windows, insertion tool and o-ring

Recommended for:

  • Single fibers
  • Minerals and crystals
  • Paint chips
  • Excised micro-sample defects
  • Rubber samples
  • Multilayered laminants
