Pierce 48-well and 96-well, 2K, 3.5K, 10K, and 20K MWCO microdialysis plates are an automation-compatible microplate with devices for the rapid dialysis of 1 to 96 samples with volumes of 10 to 1000 μL. Using the Pierce Microdialysis Plate, sample dialysis can be efficiently performed in a standard 96 deep-well plate with a minimal amount of buffer while still providing >95% removal of small molecules. The plate is compatible with standard 96-well laboratory equipment and automated liquid-handling systems, making it an ideal option for high-throughput applications.
Each sample processed with the Pierce Microdialysis Plate is dialyzed inside a single, removable dialysis device consisting of two regenerated cellulose membranes ∼2 mm apart. The short diffusion distance and large surface area facilitate rapid dialysis, with the removal of salts and small molecules often complete in 2–4 hours. Sample is recovered using standard laboratory micropipettes. The plate seals are made of high-quality polypropylene and help protect the samples from contamination and evaporation, especially during long-term storage.

Features of Pierce Microdialysis Plate:
High yield—greater than 90% protein recovery
Rapid—dialysis completed in 2–4 hours
Easy to use—sample loading and retrieval can be done with a standard pipette tip
Flexible—detachable 8-device strips, scalable from 1 to 96 samples
Automation-compatible—plate format conforms to the SBS Microplate Standard

Each 48-well and 96-well Pierce Microdialysis Plate comes pre-loaded with twelve 8-dialysis device strips. Each dialysis device strip can be removed from the plate and separated into individual microdialysis devices, allowing only the number of needed devices to be used and eliminating waste. The sample chamber inside each microdialysis device is formed by two low-binding regenerated cellulose membranes that are rated to retain proteins and other macromolecules >2,000 Daltons while allowing removal of buffer salts and contaminants

Applications:
• Protein and DNA desalting/buffer exchange
• Removal of dyes after protein labeling
• Enzyme activity/binding assays
• Drug binding studies (also see Rapid Equilbrium Dialysis 'RED' devices)

For Research Use Only. Not for use in diagnostic procedures.

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

Why did my sample volume increase during dialysis?

Most likely it‘s because osmotic pressure from dialyzing from high osmolarity to low osmolarity solutions causes a sample volume increase, as each sample component-including water-will move towards equilibrium concentration on both sides of the membrane.

What is the protein recovery after dialysis when using the 96-well Microdialysis plate?

Typical protein recovery is greater than 90% after dialysis.

Do I need to use all 96 wells in the Pierce 96-well microdalysis plate at one time?

The plate comprises detachable strips so that you can pull out the exact number of wells needed for an experiment (scalable from 1-96 samples).

What is the difference between your dialysis devices (plates, device, cassettes, flasks)?

Please view our selection table to choose the right dialysis device for your experiment - https://www.thermofisher.com/us/en/home/life-science/protein-biology/protein-purification-isolation/protein-dialysis-desalting-concentration/dialysis-products.html.

What is protein dialysis?

Dialysis is the separation of small and large molecules in a solution by selective diffusion through a semi-permeable membrane. It is generally used for larger sample volumes, and can take hours to overnight for complete dialysis.
