Tetraethylammonium tetrafluoroborate is used as a phase transfer catalyst in organic synthesis. It finds application as an electrolyte additive in the capillary electrophoretic separation of polyphenols found in grape seed extracts. It is also used to prepare other tetrabutylammonium salts in aqueous solutions. It is involved in the synthesis of conducting poly(thiophenes).
