Sulfadiazine is used as an antibacterial. It is a short-acting sulfonamide that is commonly used with pyrimethamine to treat toxoplasmosis in patients with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome. It is also used to treat newborns with congenital infections and to control acute infections when studying murine models of reactivated toxoplasmosis. It is It eliminates bacteria that cause infections by stopping the production of folic acid inside the bacterial cell, and is commonly used to treat urinary tract infections (UTIs)
