Benzyl 2,2,2-trichloroacetimidate is used for the acid-catalyzed benzylation of hydroxy groups. It acts as reagent during the synthesis of funiculosin dimethyl ether and (S)-3-(benzyloxy)-2-methylpropanal. It can also be used for mild esterification of carboxylic acids in the presence of a catalytic amount of BF
3 etherate.
This Thermo Scientific Chemicals brand product was originally part of the Alfa Aesar product portfolio. Some documentation and label information may refer to the legacy brand. The original Alfa Aesar product / item code or SKU reference has not changed as a part of the brand transition to Thermo Scientific Chemicals.
