N-octane is mainly used as a solvent, fuel and as one of the standard values in octane rating scale. It is also used to prevent uneven burning of fuel in internal-combustion engines. Further, it acts as an antiknock agent for high compression engine fuels, lacquer diluents, blowing agent for foam rubber. In addition, it is used in rocket propellants and in azeotropic distillations.
