• D-Glucosamine is an abundant monosaccharide amino sugar that acts as a building block in the synthesis of glycosylated proteins and lipids

• D-Glucosamine is the precursor at the start of the hexosamine pathway that is essential to the formation of common proteoglycans

• D-Glucosamine combines with chondroitin sulfate in cartilage and is found as a monomer in chitin

Application

• D-Glucosamine can be used as a biochemical standard or for cell stimulation along with glucose in cell culture

• It may be useful in the laboratory study of osteoarthritis and diabetes
