Calcium hydride is used as an efficient drying agent for aprotic base-stable solvents like ethers and tertiary amines. It is a useful dehydrating agent in a synthesis of aldehyde enamines in high yield and purity.
This Thermo Scientific Chemicals brand product was originally part of the Alfa Aesar product portfolio. Some documentation and label information may refer to the legacy brand. The original Alfa Aesar product / item code or SKU reference has not changed as a part of the brand transition to Thermo Scientific Chemicals.
Applications
Calcium chloride is used as an efficient drying agent for aprotic base-stable solvents like ethers and tertiary amines. It is a useful dehydrating agent in a synthesis of aldehyde enamines in high yield and purity.
Solubility
Soluble in water and alcohol. Insoluble in benzene.
Notes
Moisture sensitive. Reacts with water vigorously and liberates hydrogen gas. Incompatible with strong oxidizing agents, strong acids, halogens, water and alcohols.
