The γ-Glutamyl Transferase (GGT/γ-GT) Colorimetric Activity Kit is a highly reliable and sensitive assay designed for the quantitative measurement of GGT in serum, plasma, and animal tissue samples. GGT is widely present in various organs of the human body, including the liver, kidney, and pancreas. GGT catalyzes the degradation of glutathione (GSH) and is involved in the regulation of glutathione levels in tissues, as well as the absorption and excretion of amino acids. Changes in GGT activity have been associated with various diseases, particularly those affecting the hepatobiliary system.
The assay utilizes the catalytic property of GGT to transfer a γ-glutamyl group from glutamyl p-nitroaniline to N-glycyl glycine, resulting in the production of p-nitroaniline. The p-nitroaniline has a characteristic absorption peak at 405 nm, allowing for the measurement of GGT activity.
