Sodium Chloride is widely used in biochemistry and molecular biology applications. It is used in a wide variety of biochemical applications including creating density gradients, regulating biological functions and as a diluent to increase ionic strength in buffers or culture media. a component of PBS and SSC buffers. It has also been used for precipitation of DNA from SDS-containing samples and in the removal of small nucleic acid fragments from plasmid DNA preparations.

Solubility
Soluble in water (358 mg/ml at 20°C), alcohol (very slightly), glycerol (100 mg/ml), and ammonia. Insoluble in hydrochloric acid.

Notes
Incompatible with strong oxidizing agents. Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area away from incompatible substances. Store protected from moisture.
