Description

Doxycycline monohydrate acts as an antibiotic, antimicrobial agent and a matrix metalloproteinase inhibitor. In addition to this, it inhibits the bacterial protein synthesis by preventing the interaction of aminoacyl-tRNA and the bacterial ribosome.

General Description
• Doxycycline monohydrate is a semi-synthetic tetracycline antibiotic with broad-spectrum activity
• It is a tetracycline with the 5beta-hydrogen group replaced by a hydroxy group
• Doxycycline monohydrate acts by binding the 30S ribosomal subunit and preventing polypeptide formation
• Doxycycline monohydrate may also act on the 50S ribosomal subunit, is a known inhibitor of collagenases, and has anti-inflammatory properties

• Doxycycline can be used for study of cancers, infections, and antibiotic resistance in laboratory settings
• Doxycycline can be used experimentally to control TET genes and induce expression of genes of interest in vitro
