Description

For studying the expression, binding, and inhibition of penicillin-binding proteins.Cefoperazone sodium salt is used in the study of drug-protein binding, expression and inhibition of penicillin-binding proteins during cell wall synthesis. It is as an antibacterial and antimicrobial agent useful for prevention of postoperative infection. It is used as an inhibitor of inactivation of alfa-antitrypsin.

This Thermo Scientific Chemicals brand product was originally part of the Alfa Aesar product portfolio. Some documentation and label information may refer to the legacy brand. The original Alfa Aesar product / item code or SKU reference has not changed as a part of the brand transition to Thermo Scientific Chemicals.

General Description

• Cefoperazone sodium salt is a semi-synthetic, broad-spectrum, third-generation cephalosporin compound with antibiotic and bactericidal activities
• This compound can inhibit bacterial cell wall synthesis by inactivating penicillin-binding proteins and consequently interfering with the final transpeptidation step required for cross-linking peptidoglycan units, an important component of bacterial cell walls. This leads to a reduction in cell wall stability, causing cell lysis

Application

• Cefoperazone sodium salt exhibits activity against β-lactamase resistant microorganisms
• This compound is also used for studying the expression, binding, and inhibition of penicillin-binding proteins
• Cefoperazone is active in vitro against most gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, including β-lactamase strains
• This compound has the ability to inhibit ∝-antitrypsin
