It serves as an intermediate for the manufacture of corrosion inhibitors, flotation aids, fuel and lubricating oil additives, polyvinyl chloride stabilizers, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, plasticizers, rubber auxiliaries and paint solvents.

Incompatible with strong oxidizing agents, strong acids, acid chlorides and acid anhydrides.
