Hexamethyldisiloxane is used as a solvent in organic reactions. It finds application as an international standard for 1H NMR spectroscopy for calibrating chemical shift. Further, it is used in liquid bandages to protect skin from irritation. In addition, it is used to measure tissue oxygen tension as a receptor molecule.
