Cultivate fungi and stimulate chlamydospore production by Candida albicans with Thermo Scientific™ Remel™ Cornmeal Agar with Polysorbate 80, Trypan Blue. Polack and Benham demonstrated the use of cornmeal agar for studying differential mycelial characteristics of Candida species1,2. Adding polysorbate 80 to cornmeal agar stimulates chlamydospore formation by Candida albicans3-4.
Cornmeal Agar with Polysorbate 80 and trypan blue is a solid medium recommended for use in qualitative procedures as a general-purpose media for cultivating fungi and stimulating chlamydospore production by Candida albicans.
Cornmeal agar consists of an infusion of cornmeal and agar, which provides the essential nutrients needed to support the growth of fungi and the production of chlamydospores by Candida albicans. Polysorbate 80 reduces surface tension and enhances the development of chlamydospores. Trypan blue provides a contrasting background allowing optimal visualization of chlamydospores.
