Nutrient Agar

Cultivate and maintain wide variety of microorganisms with Thermo Scientific™ Remel™ Nutrient Agar. This is a non-selective medium which was published by APHA in 1917¹, as a standardized medium for the use in the examination of water, wastewater, dairy products and various foods. This medium is also used for the recovery of non-fastidious microorganisms and to cultivate and maintain stock cultures^2,3.

Nutrient Agar is a general purpose culture medium used to cultivate and maintain wide variety of microorganisms.

• Recommended by the American Public Health Association - Standard Methods of Water Analysis.

This medium contains beef extract that provides carbohydrates, vitamins, nitrogen compounds, and salts. Gelatin peptone provides nutrients in the form of amino acids and peptides. When used in combination, beef extract and gelatin are found to be as nutritious as meat infusion. Agar is the solidifying agent.
