Remel™ Kovacs Indole Reagent

Kovac’s Indole Reagent is used to determine the ability of microorganisms, primarily Enterobacteriaceae, to split indole from the tryptophan molecule. Intracellular enzymes collectively called tryptophanases help in the production of indole by hydrolytic activity against the amino acid tryptophan. Indole combines with dimethylaminobenzaldehyde to form a red compound.
