Proteomic sample preparation for MS analysis is complex, resulting in challenges with reproducibility and peptide quality. For MS sample preparation methods that utilize magnetic beads, a major challenge is the compatibility of the beads with the harsh conditions required for sample processing. When exposed to extreme pH or solvents, traditional magnetic beads often clump or dissolve, resulting in increased variability.

Pierce Proteomics Magnetic Clean-up Beads have been designed for compatibility with common solvents (e.g. acetonitrile, ethanol, isopropyl alcohol, and acetone) and wide range of pH (e.g. pH 2-13) to enable fast, efficient, and reproducible removal of a wide variety of detergents, salts, and other mass spectrometry (MS)-incompatible contaminants from protein and peptide samples. The beads can be successfully used to clean up proteins derived from different sample types (e.g. purified proteins, cell lysates, tissue extracts, and biological fluids) and protein input amounts (e.g. 1 µg to 1 mg) using manual magnetic processing or automated workflows. 

EasyPep Magnetic MS Sample Prep Kits integrate optimized EasyPep sample preparation chemistry with the Proteomics Magnetic Clean-up Beads to support manual and automated magnetic bead sample processing, including the King Fisher Instrument Series. The complete kits contain pre-formulated buffers, MS-grade enzyme mix, magnetic beads for peptide clean-up, and an optimized protocol to generate MS-ready peptide samples in less than 3 hours. The kits are suitable for processing protein samples from 15–100 µg with a high yield of detergent-free peptides ready for direct LC-MS analysis without the need to SpeedVac dry and reconstitute before injection.  In addition, the peptide samples are compatible with isobaric tag (e.g., TMT/TMTpro Reagents) labeling and high pH reversed-phase fractionation.
