It is involved in the selective monophosphorylation of carbohydrates and nucleosides. It plays an essential role in the conversion of protected ribonucleosides to phosphoramidites. It is also utilized as phosphitylating reagent for 3'-hydroxyl groups in the synthesis of oligodeoxyribonucleotides.
