General Description
• Streptomycin sulfate is an aminoglycoside sulfate salt derived from Streptomyces griseus that shows antibacterial activity.
• It inhibits initiation and causes misreading of rRNA in protein synthesis. This compound binds to the S12 protein of the bacterial 30S ribosomal subunit, thereby inhibiting peptide elongation and protein synthesis.
Application
• Streptomycin sulfate can be used to study the mechanisms of streptomycin resistance
• This compound can be used in laboratory applications combined with penicillin to inhibit bacterial contamination in in vitro cell culture
• Streptomycin sulfate shows antibiotic activity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis
• This compound can be used as a protein synthesis inhibitor
• It acts against gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria • Streptomycin sulfate also shows a fungicide activity
• It can be used to remove nucleic acids from a biological extract
