BAPTA is a cell-impermeant chelator, which is a highly selective for Ca2+ over Mg2+, and it can be used to control the level of extracellular Ca2+. BAPTA is more selective for Ca2+ than EDTA and EGTA, and its metal binding is also less sensitive to pH.
