Description

Phosphorus(V) oxychloride is widely used as a dehydrating agent and a chlorinating agent. Useful for the conversion of amide to nitriles, Bischler-Napieralski reaction, Vilsmeier Haak reaction, and other reactions producing commercially important intermediates. Acts a source of liquid phosphorus in semiconductor industry. Manufacture of trialkyl phosphate esters and triarylphosphate esters, including commercially popular tricresyl phosphate,which is useful as a plasticizer, flame retardant, gasoline additive, hydrolytic fluid, etc.
