Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

What are the tubing lengths of the regular length and extended length cassettes for the Multidrop Combi Reagent Dispensers?

Regular length tubing (small and standard) cassette length is 40 cm long.

Extended length tubing (small and standard) cassette length is 200 cm long.
Note: You can cut the extended length tubing to the desired length but we recommend checking the calibration on the cassette, once modified, to ensure it is providing accurate results.

Can I repair Multidrop Combi small tubing cassettes or replace the tubing in them, instead of purchasing a new cassette?

No, you cannot repair or replace the tubing in the Multidrop Combi small tubing cassettes. If you attempt to do so, the cassette may not function properly. The small tubing cassettes incorporate either plastic tips or metal tips. While metal tip cassettes will last longer than plastic tip cassettes, once the tubing in a cassette wears or reaches its end of life (EOL), the entire cassette will need to be replaced with a brand-new cassette.

When should I use the Multidrop Combi tube reagent filter accessories for Multidrop Combi small tube cassettes?

We recommend using the filters to help prevent cassette tips from getting clogged during use. Dust, particles, and fibers commonly found in the lab can cause clogging in the Thermo Scientific Multidrop Combi cassettes, preventing reliable dispensing. Keeping particles from entering the tubing helps reduce the likelihood of a clogged tip in small tubing dispensing cassettes. The filter also acts as a weight to hold the tubing in the source vessel. To use the filter, simply remove the tubing weight from the end of the small cassette tubing and replace it with a filter.

Can the SMART cassettes with RFID tags be used with the standard Multidrop Combi without SMART option or vice versa?

Yes, the cassettes are interchangeable, however, the calibration data cannot be viewed and the information about the cassette is not updated. Also standard cassettes can be used with the Multidrop Combi with SMART option.

What should I do if the liquid foams during dispensing with the Multidrop Combi?

Some liquids foam more easily than others. One option is to reduce the pump rotor speed. There are three dispensing speeds available: High, Med (medium), and Low.
