Enrich and recover Vibrio species from food, water and clinical samples using these ready prepared bottles.
Enrich and recover Vibrio species from food, water and clinical samples with Thermo Scientific™ Oxoid™ Alkaline Peptone Water ready prepared bottles. The medium is selective by exploiting the ability of Vibrio species to tolerate alkaline conditions and high sodium chloride levels. The peptone content provides the conditions for growth and recovery of Vibrio species, supplying vitamins, minerals, and nitrogen in the form of amino acids.
Remove the need for autoclaving and dispensing with convenient, pre-filled and ready prepared bottles of Alkaline Peptone Water.
Alkaline Peptone Water was first formulated by Shread, Donovan and Lee1 to be used as a non-selective enrichment broth for the cultivation of Aeromonas spp. Cruickshank reported that when the pH is raised, the medium can be used to effectively cultivate Vibrio species.2 The 2% (w/v) sodium chloride incorporated in this medium promotes the growth of Vibrio cholerae, while the alkalinity of this medium inhibits most of the unwanted background flora.
