Enumerate Bacillus cereus in food samples with this selective and differential medium.
Enumerate Bacillus cereus in food samples with selective and differential medium Thermo Scientific™ Oxoid™ MYP Agar (Dehydrated). The diagnostic features of the medium rely upon the failure of Bacillus cereus to utilize mannitol and the ability of most strains to produce phospholipase C, resulting in an opaque halo around the colonies.
Bacillus cereus has been recognized as a causative agent of food poisoning since the 1950s. Many early isolation techniques used blood agar, relying on hemolysis and colony morphology, followed by a range of tests for confirmation. MYP Agar has proven to be very effective for detecting B. cereus even with very low numbers.
