Human metapneumovirus (hMPV) is a respiratory virus that causes an upper respiratory infection. It causes seasonal epidemics centred around the winter months, and symptoms include fever with upper respiratory symptoms such as cough and nasal congestion1, 2. However, hMPV has also been associated with more severe illness and lower respiratory tract symptoms such as pneumonia and bronchiolitis3,4.
Use IMAGEN Human metapneumovirus (hMPV) Kit as a rapid, sensitive and specific method for direct detection of hMPV in clinical samples such as nasopharyngeal aspirates.
Human metapneumovirus (hMPV) is an enveloped, spherical RNA virus of the family Paramyxoviridae, subfamily Paramyxovirinae and is classified within the genus Metapneumovirus3. hMPV is the only member of the genus that affects humans, with the other members including avian pneumoviruses A, B, C and D1,5.
