Isolate and cultivate anaerobic organisms, including fastidious strains with Thermo Scientific™ Remel™ Anaerobic Blood Agar ready prepared plates. Anaerobic Blood Agar serves as a nutritious medium supporting good growth and typical pigmentation of fastidious and slow growing anaerobes, as well as other anaerobes of clinical importance. Selective agents like kanamycin, vancomycin, neomycin and paramomycin make the medium selective for fastidious, anaerobic bacteria from mixed populations by inhibiting facultative and aerobic gram-negative organisms.

Use Anaerobic Blood Agar for isolation and cultivation of anaerobic organisms including the fastidious strains.

  • Selective: the addition of phenylethyl alcohol inhibits facultative anaerobic gram-negative bacilli.
  • Ready-to-use: convenience of prepared media.

Anaerobe Blood Agar contains peptones which supply nitrogenous substances and amino acids necessary for the growth of anaerobic bacteria. Yeast extract provides B-complex vitamins and serves as a growth enhancer. Hemin, vitamin K, and sheep blood stimulate the growth of anaerobes. Sodium chloride is a source of essential electrolytes and maintains osmotic equilibrium.
