Digital Volume Correlation Provides Insight for Fukushima Cleanup

The Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant suffered severe damage in 2011, resulting in the melting of various materials and the formation of highly radioactive molten core-concrete interactions. The plant still emits high levels of heat and requires daily cooling and decontamination. Decommissioning the plant is costly and hazardous, with the need to break through the radioactive material using robots. The required strength for these robots remains a critical question.

Explore how a Technical Institute of Denmark team used Thermo Scientific Avizo Software helped identify pores and ratio of materials, understand the material deformation process thanks to the Digital Volume Correlation package features.
