cell culture cryopreservation

Use our tools and resources to help improve cryopreservation skills in the lab and learn about cryopreservation of cells.

What is cyropreservation?

Cryopreservation is the process of freezing biological samples, such as cells, tissues, or organs, at extremely low temperatures to preserve their viability for future use. Cryopreservation is significant because it helps enable long-term storage and preservation of biological samples, helping ensure their availability for future research, medical treatments, and reproductive technologies.

Cryopreservation of cells in cell culture is the process of freezing and storing cultured cells at ultra-low temperatures to maintain their viability and functionality for future experimental or therapeutic use.

Good recovery relies on successful storage

Preparation is key. Improper cryogenic preservation can have disastrous outcomes, leading to poor (or no!) cell recovery and project setbacks. Review information on cryopreservation and cold storage best practices before you freeze your first vial.

This video demonstrates the critical steps required to freeze cells while maintaining optimal cell health. We review the equipment required, how to prepare for freezing, and each step performed in a careful way at the right pace to prevent damage to your cells.

Video: Thawing and plating cryopreserved hepatocytes

This video covers the thawing and prep of cryopreserved hepatocytes for their subsequent use in applications such as metabolic stability (intrinsic clearance), metabolite ID/profiling, enzyme induction, hepatotoxicity, transporter uptake and efflux, environmental bioaccumulation, and liver disease.
