Collagen I, Rat Tail is the cell culture workhorse of basic coating and gel preparations for growing attachment cells. Gibco™ Collagen I, Rat Tail is now available in pre-coated tissue culture plates to help save time at the bench. Designed to meet a number of different applications, our high quality, consistent Collagen I Coated Plates come in 3 formats – 96 well, 24 well and 6 well plates .
• Ready to use, room temperature storage
• Quality tested to help ensure consistency
• Available in 3 different plate formats and in custom formats for a broad range of applications

Easy to use, easy to store
Collagen I, Coated Plates and lids are packed 5 per vacuum sealed foil pouch with a desiccant which can be stored at room temperature for a maximum shelf life of 2 years. Collagen I, rat tail is used to coat tissue culture treated plates. This is the same collagen material we sell in liquid form. The plates are ready to use with no further preparation required, simply seed your cells.

Quality tested to help ensure consistency
For maximum efficiency and consistency, Gibco™ Collagen I Coated Plates is designed to meet those expectations. We start with high quality rat tail collagen, the same material available in liquid form and follow a closely controlled, aseptic manufacturing process that produces a very consistent coating on the surface of tissue culture treated plates. We test each lot to help ensure we meet these standards.

Available in different formats for a broad range of applications
Extracellular matrix (ECM) proteins play an important role in the regulation of fundamental cellular processes and are widely used as a coating or matrix for tissue culture systems to permit the development of models that closely mimic in vivo conditions. Gibco™ Collagen I Coated Plates can be used in a broad range of applications, including the culturing of fresh or frozen hepatocytes (rat and human), as well as for neuronal, epithelial, and muscle primary cells. They are also ideal for culturing human corneal epithelial cells (HCEC) in defined media.
For Research Use Only. Not for use in diagnostic procedures.

The following cell types are commonly cultured in collagen I:

- Endothelial cells (including HUVEC)
- Fibroblasts
- Hepatocytes
- Chondrocytes
- Osteoclasts
- Osteoblasts
- Keratinocytes
- Corneal epithelium

The key applications include the following:

- Collagen I induces microvascular endothelial cells to adopt a spindle-shaped morphology, in vitro, and to align into solid cord-like assemblies. Vascular endothelial cells can also form vessel-like, tubular structures when cultured on collagen I. Collagen I can be used for in vitro angiogenesis assays.
- Breast cancer stem cells can undergo differentiation when cultured on collagen I.
- Collagen I has been used for the culture of primary colon carcinoma cell lines; mouse liver progenitor cells have been cultured in 3D collagen I and rat pancreatic islets.
- Collagen I can act as a barrier in cell invasion assays, and has been used to study cell adhesion.

Gibco Geltrex Matrix and collagen (rat tail and bovine) can be used as either a coating solution or a 3D gel matrix. CELLstart Substrate was developed to be used as a xeno-free coating matrix for only ESC applications (as a substitute for Gibco Geltrex Matrix or Matrigel Matrix, which are of animal origin). AlgiMatrix Matrix is a 3D scaffold-type matrix that does not support cell attachment but does provide a good environment for growing spheroids that can be easily harvested for downstream applications.
